Well isn’t that clever? Spanish soccer team Getafe debuted their new uniforms earlier this week. While the design is fairly ho-hum, save the gigantic Burger King logo splashed across the front, the team’s hamburger-peddling sponsor has really scored with another marketing gem. On the inside of the jersey. That’s right. The inside of these Joma-designed duds come equipped with an inverted image of the King. No, not Elvis — we’re talking about that crazy one from all the BK commercials that somehow freaks a lot of people out. I love him. And I love the fact that Getafe’s goalscorers this season of flipping their shirt up and donning the King’s visage over their own. What a classy blue-blood move on the team’s part.

Brilliant!

Shot at a recent "Sunday Sessions," the following video shows a freestyle battle including some of the hottest up-and-coming Dallas-area emcees. Fierce competitors include MC Astro, Cainam, Flotation, Bobby Fischer and more.

[vimeo]http://www.vimeo.com/5525664[/vimeo]

So this is what we do down in Dallas, Tejas. It really is a shame that there seems to be such little quality footage of our local hip-hop scene, so I had to pounce on it when I heard my roommate @Gonz2thaL shot some Dallas footage. This video comes from the freestyle battle that capped of the most recent edition of Poor Vida’s Sunday Sessions at The Green Elephant. For those not in the know, the Poor Vida crew hosts a pair of monthly hip-hop events, on the first Sunday as well as the third Saturday of the month. The main goal for these shows is to give local performers an outlet for their art, so if you think you may be the next big thing out of Dallas a la Astronautalis or Damaged Good$ this may be your shot. More importantly, you very well may end up in this space, featured by yours truly. And now to the battle! Six emcees did combat on Sunday night for a pair of tickets to tomorrow’s Summer Jam, featuring Bun B, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Trae, Big Tuck, and more. Do you think that YOU should have been the one rockin’ a free entry to the Summer Jam tomorrow? Well here’s your chance. Hit up Poor Vida for your very own opportunity to get up. Enjoy the battle. Big ups to judges Rob Viktum, Fishr-Pryce, Jackie (who has the excellent Myspace vanity URL “ilovehiphop”) and some guy who I do not know (sorry, dude). Do you think the right guy won? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Must be seen! Lord Oasis-75 v. Flotation

Well, behold, as you are about to witness one of the all-time great manifestos in the history of the written word. It may only be one page, but that's almost better. Allow your imagination to fill in the gaps.

So apparently some knight left this in my parking lot yesterday and what kind of a friend would I be if I did not share some of the chivalrous swashbuckling of the pen that this man has used to seduce what must be thousands of beautiful maidens? The last time I submitted something to Found Magazine, I don’t think it ever made it public and the world would be done a disservice if that story were replicated. So go on, young knights-in-training, and use this missive as a lesson for how we can all be just a little bit better at attracting the fairer sex. Hell, if you’re lucky, you may even be able to get Sir Schell to mentor you–if he has time to return your letter that is. And for all you ladies: remember, “Fine Bitchs Only 4 Pen Pal,” so don’t even try and front.

Preseason basketball is here and it seems that at least one local establishment is decidedly unsatisfied with all the negative attention that Josh Howard has recieved as of late. SMU-area haunt Milo Butterfingers had this to say about the Wake Forest product, who at this point seems a far ethical cry from his fellow Demon Deacon alums Tim Duncan and Chris Paul. Not only does the bar hang this signed jersey upside-down, but they make sure as many people see it as possible by putting directly next to the front entrance. We’ll keep an eye on the status of this–maybe Josh can play his way back from the Land Down Under if he can put together some solid play after the first quarter with any kind of consistency.

P.S. Note the Barry Sanders Oklahoma State(?!) jersey that the bar also proudly displays–right-side up.

If you like these comedians like I do, this video is a must. Also, worthwhile for anyone with even a passing interest in breakdancing.

Those familiar with what is perhaps the grooviest part of the city of Dallas are familiar with Matilda St., who along with McMillan serve as the preferred conduits for those inhabiting the Lower Greenville area. I mean, everyone knows that only tourists and cops drive on Greenville. So you can imagine this East Dallas native’s surprise when I went to visit my mom today and saw that both signs at the street’s intersection with Mercedes have been replaced with impostor “Mitilda” signs. I mean, who spells it like that? With all the street name change business going on in this town as of late, maybe someone actually took some initiative. Or maybe this is some new sort of vandalism that can mark its origins to my home town. Probably not.

And now SMU finally follows suit.

In the first three decades of the existence of the Dallas Cowboys–perhaps the greatest sports organization on the planet–only nine players and the revered head coach Tom Landry were inducted into the Ring of Honor at Texas Stadium. Only the words “Bob Lilly” and its accompanying “74″ have been there longer than the name of Don Meredith, beaming upon legions of Cowboy fans from its blue stripe just beneath the press box. And Dandy Don deserved 1,000% to be up there because of his importance to North Texas.

He grew up a 100 mile drive down I-30 in a small town called Mount Vernon and played his way to number one recruit status. He turned down Bear Bryant in favor of Dallas’ SMU, where he founded the university’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter. He finished third in Heisman voting in 1958. Then he went on to become the only kid from a Dallas high school or college to come start for America’s Team. They slapped his name up on that Ring of Honor in 1976. That’s Twenty-Two years ago for those keeping score.

So can anyone tell me why the ample brain trust that is the SMU Hall of Fame Committee has just now decided to retire Meredith’s hallowed number 17? It’s been a long time coming, but you’d think that someone would have noticed considering that SMU and the Cowboys shared the same field as tenants of the Cotton Bowl. The committee consists mainly of members of the Letterman’s Club, but unfortunately I couldn’t find any info on this organization on SMU’s interwebs. My guess is that they don’t want to be reached, considering the tardiness of this decision and the fact that they are the same people behind this.
