The US men's soccer team was far from impressive, echoing the performance of the women's team the day before, but they managed to get the three points against Japan on the strength of a goal from Stuart Holden. What I found more interesting, though, was the fact that the team was missing the official team crest on the jerseys and shorts, another way that they mirrored the women's showing.

It all happened so fast. Today in Beijing the Olympics quietly kicked off with the first round of women's soccer matches. Sorely missing their star Abby Wambach, who suffered a broken leg last month, the US team gave up two goals in the first four minutes to Norway and struggled the entire time en route to losing the match. You know what else the US team seems to have lost? The badges from their jerseys.

Like movie trailer spoofs? What about seeing some of your favorite NBA athletes act like clowns? Well, Steve Nash and Baron Davis have satisfied both of these essential human needs.

When I first saw this picture, which dates from 1983, I figured that it must've been an Orioles game, with many of the fans in the stands wearing orange shirts. But upon closer inspection it became clear that the majority of the supporters in Fenway Park's outfield were topless. Speaking with a co-worker who was going to ballgames in the early 1980s, this was apparently not such an out-of-the-ordinary sight.

Johnny Cupcakes is officially moving to the West Coast soon, opening a new store on Melrose Ave. in LA on August 2 (big party, we hear). Here Johnny gives us an update on the construction of the Los Angeles shoppe. Really like the cool vintage feel going on here. Check it out and let me know what you think.

In what is quite a refreshing acceptance of pop culture as art, the prominent auction house Christie's recently featured many modern toys by such artists as Tilt, Mist, Kozik, Joe Ledbetter, Tristan, Sucklord and Kidrobot founder Paul Budnitz.

Some truly spectacular work was put in by artist Blu as he has created this beautiful sequence using graffiti and stop action animation. The mind fairly boggles.

Another fantastic find from our department of lost letters. Is it a rap song? Man, I hope so.

Some poor young kid has been duped into thinking that he's met a bona-fide NBA star. Oops.
