Those familiar with what is perhaps the grooviest part of the city of Dallas are familiar with Matilda St., who along with McMillan serve as the preferred conduits for those inhabiting the Lower Greenville area. You can imagine this East Dallas native’s surprise when I went to visit my mom today and saw that both signs at the street’s intersection with Mercedes have been replaced with impostor “Mitilda” signs.

In the first three decades of the existence of the Dallas Cowboys — perhaps the greatest sports organization on the planet — only nine players and the revered head coach Tom Landry were inducted into the Ring of Honor at Texas Stadium. Only the words “Bob Lilly” and its accompanying “74″ have been there longer than the name of Don Meredith, beaming upon legions of Cowboy fans from its blue stripe just beneath the press box. And now SMU finally follows suit.

So it’s pretty safe to say that DJ Z-Trip is a genius. Well, he’s put out yet another one of his precious mixes, this time focusing his laser on the upcoming presidential elections. That’s right. Closed. Today two of my favorite Dallas businesses have gone the way of the Dodo like many things seem to be as of late. I can’t say that I did not see it coming with CD World. As for the esteemed Meridian Room, they have fallen victim to the benevolent arachnid the DART Rail, whose expansion can add this fine bar to a list that includes the Good Latimer Bridge and its sweet, sweet street art.

I just love love love this commercial. We need more like this.

Protesters on the Marion bridge are being harassed and threatened to be arrested. Keep in mind that these are peaceful protesters, oh yeah and I forgot to say that they’re seated. There’s also reports of tear gas and concussion grenades being deployed at another location. Minnesota law enforcement must have gone batty — did anything like this happen in Denver?

I know that by now it’s old news that the Pro Bowl #85 for the Cincinnati Bengals has officially changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco, but I literally laughed out loud when I spied this while perusing opening day NFL rosters on the ESPN web site. As of yesterday, his Wikipedia page as well as his ESPN profile still referred to him as a Johnson. Today, though, all is well in the world. I look forward to seeing it on the field Sunday.

Period are big fans of New Balance (now if we could only convince them to add a small punctuation mark to their logo), so without further adieu we introduce this clean grey-on-grey colorway that NB uses for the MT580 shoe — our current featured Kick of the Week. Originally released as a trail shoe by the Japanese company Mita in the 1990s, the 580 has seen many special editions in the Land of the Rising Sun due to its simple, elegant design and solid build.

When adidas released the ZX 800 in the mid-1980s the running world was turned on its ear with what was at the time one of the most technically-advanced shoes around. Now, over 20 years later, the Brand with the Three Stripes proves that it has indeed created a timeless classic.
