USA Women Fall to Norway, Lose Official Badges

It all happened so fast. Today in Beijing the Olympics quietly kicked off with the first round of women's soccer matches. Sorely missing their star Abby Wambach, who suffered a broken leg last month, the US team gave up two goals in the first four minutes to Norway and struggled the entire time en...

Dandy Don thumbnailIn the first three decades of the existence of the Dallas Cowboys — perhaps the greatest sports organization on the planet — only nine players and the revered head coach Tom Landry were inducted into the Ring of Honor at Texas Stadium. Only the words "Bob Lilly" and its accompanying "74" have been there longer than the name of Don Meredith, beaming upon legions of Cowboy fans from its blue stripe just beneath the press box. And now SMU finally follows suit.

Chad Ocho Cinco thumbnailI know that by now it's old news that the Pro Bowl #85 for the Cincinnati Bengals has officially changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco, but I literally laughed out loud when I spied this while perusing opening day NFL rosters on the ESPN web site. As of yesterday, his Wikipedia page as well as his ESPN profile still referred to him as a Johnson. Today, though, all is well in the world. I look forward to seeing it on the field Sunday.

SMU Helmet thumbnailWith the announcement last week that the SMU football team would be sporting "new" uniforms, I felt the need to bring up the Mustangs' schizophrenic handling of the color blue. Now I'm not old enough to remember, but I can't recall ever seeing the SMU athletic teams wearing anything but royal before the mid to late 1990s. But navy was the preferred hue of blue that the football team adopted in 2003. And there seems to be no explanation for this at all.

Justin Willis thumbnailNew SMU football head coach is proving very quickly that he's not playing games and that he has no favorites. Last season's record-setting junior quarterback Justin Willis has been suspended from spring practice and his name has been removed from the roster on the school's official website. Wow.

According to this article from the USA Today, University of Hawaii head football coach June Jones resigned this morning from his position with the school, furthering speculation that Jones may be the man to fill the postion left vacant after SMU head coach Phil Bennett's firing on October 28. Apparently Jones is en route to Dallas to discuss the job with SMU Athletic Director Steve Orsini…

Unruly Fan Fails To Salvage NFL Network Telecast

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dc4VraDiqIk&rel=1] Here we see a fan make his way onto the field, spicing up an otherwise subpar Thursday Night Football matchup on the NFL Network.  I know that it's been discussed at length in multiple forums, but with the quality of production for these last two weeks, I do not understand how the NFL Network expects people to pay extra to hear Bryant Gumbel and Chris Collinsworth painfully suck at their…
